Warming Up

This is not about the weather. It's about English people. In several social groups now, I have observed this working. Take joining a new 12 week yoga class. First class, no one makes eye contact at all. Second class, hostile eye contact, like, "where are you putting that mat... not too close to me I hope". Third class, slightly envious eye contact, with people watching the few chatters who have managed to break the ice. Fourth class, smiles, nods, plenty of eye contact, everyone chatting. This is such a bore. English reserve entirely deserves its cliched status, even in regard to young people. By the way, later I found out that the two women I managed to chat to in the third class are actually Australian, but have been living over here for years! I miss home.

And we miss you too!!! I guess you must be now entering the very chilly months, while here things are warming up nicely (sorry, hope that doesn't make you feel too home sick). Yesterday we had 25 degrees. It was so lovely to finish work at 3pm and come out into lovely warm weather. Today is going to be 28 degrees I think.

Me and Chris are going to Rosie's for dinner tonight - I believe we will be having Indian. Rob and Marg are going to be coming as well.

I am back at work after 3 weeks off. I dreaded going back, but now that I'm there it's things as usual. I am going to try and have my hours re-organised. Have to fill out all these forms and wade through all this corporate material. Work has this thing going at the moment called Flexible Workplace Agreements - or FWA's (since when did we start using an acronym for absolutely everything, I really hate it). Anyhoo, I am going to ask for just two big days on the weekend. I know someone who already does 19 hours on Sat/Sun. It would be such a relief to only have to go in two days a week. I would feel almost retired.

I got to do plenty of reading on my holidays, as you will see at my Blog. I"ve just finished a biography of LUcille Ball. Chris reserved it at the library for me, saying 'you should read this'. Well, I'm a sucker for those hollywood bios. Appears she was a hardboiled customer. Even uber bitch Joan Crawford said she could 'outbitch' her. None of these 'have it all' people seem to be too happy.

Also, Chris may not have told you, but horror columnist from the Herald Sun Andrew Bolt wrote a horrible column about Readers Feast, saying they were promoting hate by some of the books they sold critical of America or rather Bush (most of them by AMerican authors). You can check it up at Herald SUn.com. It beggars belief. Apparently Mary isn't even going to bother repsonding. I don't blame her, it's so plain balmy........

With regards to your post, I think I am one of those horrible reserved people when in a group of new people. Especially at work, I'm always thrown in with new groups of people, and I just can't be bothered 'making friends' or talking. But familiarity does breed friendliness.

Well, that's all from me. I am writing this at Chris' house because I cann't post comments at work. IT bans me, says I'm trying to enter a chat room or something. Plus my lap top at home loads the page funny and won't let me post.

Hope you and baby and hubby are doing well.

Chris
